The Genetics Department of LabPoint (Avenches, Switzerland) is looking for a skilled and passionate Variant Analyst/ Bioinformatician / Computational Biologist with a strong track record in NGS data analysis, variant classification and reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and analysing NGS datasets including panels, WES, and WGS from constitutional and somatic samples. 

The position will have considerable opportunity for advancement and continuous education. In particular, the successful candidate will collaborate with the Department Director, biologists and IT to structure and implement an NGS bioinformatics service capable of growing with the requirements of this dynamic new laboratory while ensuring the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in defining, implementing and updating procedures and pipelines for NGS data and variant analysis.

  • Assist in defining  QC and data analysis of NGS runs

  • Assist in defining and updating variant analysis strategies, evaluation processes, interpretation and reporting, including gene- and disease-specific approaches.

  • Assist in defining and applying approaches for NGS quality control analysis , during test development and routine diagnostic application.

  • Assist in the writing of new SOPs in compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

  • Recognize abnormal, unusual or unexpected results, evaluate causes and propose solutions.

  • Perform QC of NGS runs, variant filtering, classification and pathogenicity assessment in NGS diagnostics (constitutional and somatic).

  • Contribute to clinical reporting for NGS-based genetic testing in collaboration with the Department Director and biologists.

  • Contributes to the implementation of the new genetics LIS

  • Collaborate on group projects by performing data collection and/or interpretation tasks for publication or presentation; process improvement; or development of new tests

  • Be proactive in troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring all laboratory activities are in compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in the continuous development of the LIMS and maintain detailed and accurate records,

  • Liaise between the laboratory and other sectors including Quality Management and IT. 

 

Stellenanforderungen

Your Profile

  • Higher education degree (PhD or Masters) in a relevant field

  • Proven understanding of NGS technology and workflows

  • At least 2 years of experience in variant analysis and classification from NGS, ideally in constitutional and somatic  (ACMG, ACGS, CNV and SNV) and desirable experience in analysis of other molecular techniques (eg Sanger and MLPA)

  • Proven experience in pipeline development and excellent programming skills in R and Python

  • Proven ability to work in a team

  • Full professional proficiency in English and either French or German, other languages an advantage.
